John Goodman Revisits Sulley in "Monsters University"

When it comes to Scaring, James “Sulley” Sullivan's a natural—his abundant size, fierce roar and family legacy of a long line of high-achieving Scarers make him a shoo-in for Monsters U's esteemed Scare Program.

Acclaimed actor John Goodman (“Argo”) returns to breathe life to Sulley in Disney/Pixar's animated comedy adventure “Monsters University.”

“We all know who Sulley becomes,” says director Dan Scanlon. “Sulley was humble, sweet and mature in ‘Monsters, Inc.’—we had fun playing him against character in ‘Monsters University.’ He’s a very talented Scarer—a big guy, an athlete. He looks the part and he knows it. He shows off a little and he might be a little arrogant.”

But from the moment the overly confident monster steps his big furry feet on campus, it’s clear he’d rather crack jokes than books—and he learns the hard way that his unfettered talent and family ties can only get him so far.

An ill-timed spar with little green know-it-all Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) gets him kicked out of the Scare Program. With his ego bruised and future in jeopardy, a stubborn Sulley must put his pride aside, team up with an odd bunch of misfit monsters and actually work if he wants to live up to his true Scaring potential.

According to filmmakers, the character—who weighs in at 985 pounds—went through a bevy of changes before they landed on the right mix of confidence and likability. Fortunately, they had the right guy in place to help bring the complex character to life. Says producer Kori Rae, “John Goodman—the hardest-working man in show business—returned to voice Sulley and is absolutely great.”

Goodman was excited to revisit the role, but says he had concerns about taking the beloved character back in time. “I worried about finding a higher register for his voice, but it just took care of itself,” says the actor. “I’d come in and read a few lines and we’d go on to do the rest of the script. But we’d always come back and get the original lines at the end because by then the character had found itself.”

“Since we had to take Mike and Sulley back in time,” adds Scanlon, “We had to make them younger—college age” to be exact.

Character art director Jason Deamer and several members of the production team applied the knowledge they’d garnered in their efforts to create younger versions of Mike and Sulley. “We made them thinner, shortened their horns, removed age lines and made their eyes brighter and colors more saturated,” says Deamer. “We made a bunch of subtle moves and were pleased at how different they looked standing next to the older versions. We thought the cumulative effect was huge.”

But it wasn’t enough—so the team gave each of the returning characters what they called a “visual hook.” Sulley was adorned with an unruly tuft of teenage hair, reflecting his laidback attitude.

John Goodman was most recently seen in Ben Affleck’s drama “Argo,” which won the Best Picture Oscar for 2012, the Robert Zemeckis thriller “Flight,” Clint Eastwood’s sports drama “Trouble with the Curve” and Todd Phillips’ “The Hangover Part III.”

Opening across the Philippines on June 26 in Disney Digital 3D, 2D and regular theaters, “Monsters University” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Globe Telecom upgrades connection in Coron Palawan

Globe Telecom upgrades Coron connectivity with fiber optics
As part of its network modernization program, Globe Telecom has interconnected Coron in Palawan province through fiber optics, a move that will further strengthen network coverage in one of the country’s premier tourist destinations.
Globe and Huawei executives, along with community stakeholders, lead the cable landing activity in Coron, Palawan
The upgrade will allow subscribers vacationing in the area to share their Coron experiences through voice, text and high speed data with unparalleled ease as the leading telecommunications company linked up the island through a fiber connection, complementing the existing submarine fiber optic links to Boracay and Palawan.
“The submarine fiber connection in Coron forms part of our efforts to boost network coverage and augment capacity given increasing demand for connectivity even while our customers are on vacation and to enhance overall network performance,” said Robert Tan, Globe chief technical adviser.
The Coronsubmarine cable system is a 62-kilometer fiber optic cable that branched off from the 270-kilometer fiber optic network between Mindoro and the main island of Palawan to serve the communication services of one the best tourist destinations in the country.
This is an upgrade from the existing microwave system to a more robust and reliable transmission system using fiber optic technology and dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) system, designed to transmit 40wavelengths at 40 gigabits per second capacity per fiber pair.
This will provide the required bandwidth for subscribers to have high-speed internet surfing, seamless video streaming, fast uploads of photos and videos to social media sites, and a more reliable network for text and voice calls.
Tan said the Coron submarine cable system will power up cell sites with third generation or 3G and Evolved High-Speed Packet Access or HSPA+ connectivity and will readily support Long Term Evolution (LTE) services. It has a total transmission capacity of 9.6 terabits per second. The undersea cable system is also upgradable to a 100 gigabits per second DWDM system, giving the company flexibility in providing other network services.
The company’s network transformation program includes as a component the roll-out of about 12,000 kilometers of optical fiber lines nationwide.

Chikka at the first ever AngelHack Manila

Chikka opens mobile text API at the first AngelHack Manila

Chikka Philippines, the creator of the classic free text messenger, unveiled its text-based application programming interface (API) for use by teams participating at the first ever AngelHack Manila.

Hosted by PLDT Group’s IdeaSpace and Smart Developer Network (DevNet) team, this hackathon is actually the Manila leg of the world’s biggest startup hacking competition known as AngelHack Spring Global Challenge.

Together with local IT leaders like Chikka Philippines, the organizers welcomed hundreds of young participants from all-over the country to showcase their skills in apps development and vie for the chance to be flown to Silicon Valley for TechCrunch Disrupt, one of the biggest startup conferences in the world.

Chikka’s SMS API enables sending and receiving of text messages for various purposes but is more commonly used in mobile verification as well as in other SMS promos and services.

“We know what it’s like to be a startup—how exciting it is to work on your own concept, yet, at the same time, be extremely challenged by uncharted territories in the tech business” shared Chikka CEO Chito Bustamante.

Bustamante also said that as one of the oldest startups in the country, it is their company’s duty to continuously enable new technologies that will cater developer communities and potential partners in ensuring a web and mobile empowered future in the Philippines. “The next step for us is to enable more

Expressing excitement and pure optimism for the Filipino developer community, AngelHack’s Greg Gopman personally chose to be in the Philippines that weekend despite other AngelHack events were simultaneously being held in about six other cities including Washington DC, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur.

“We love being here in the Philippines because we see a lot of great people and great potential. There’s so much technical talent here waiting to be unleashed. The Filipino developer community is inspiring and we think the Philippines is in the top ten emerging countries in the developer scene,” Gopman explained.

Davao-based team off to Silicon Valley

The winning app “Pagesnapp” was unanimously proclaimed as the most powerful application at the event as it allows small business owners to easily create mobile apps just by using their Facebook pages. “It’s a very unique application. It’s one of those things that other people have tried to do but have not figured out how to do simply,” Gopman said.

The Pagesnapp team will fly to Silicon Valley in September and meet the other 30 winners from other cities as they present their startup concepts to tech experts and potential investors at the TechCrunch Disrupt.

Chikka Philippines is a wholly owned subsidiary of PLDT-Smart Communications, Inc.

Maxene Magalona has excellent sinister role

Sister of Elmo Magalona (Maxene) role in afternoon soap draws ire from viewers

She has been a very supportive Ate to Elmo. Maxene Magalona may be charming in real life but her sinister role in the GMA afternoon series “Mga Basang Sisiw” is drawing ire from viewers.
Since the second week of the series’ run, its official account on Twitter (@mgabasangsisiw) and on Facebook (Facebook.com/MgaBasangSisiw) have been receiving “hate” comments from viewers carried away by Maxene’s portrayal as Vicky. Vicky is the main antagonist who makes the life of the lead characters portrayed by Renz Valerio, Bianca Umali, Kimberly Fulgar, Hershey Garcia and Miko Zarsadias miserable every single day.
In the story, Vicky is a distant relative of Olivia (Lani Mercado) who secretly admires the latter’s husband, Froilan. In her desire to ruin the marriage of Froilan and Olivia, Vicky blackmailed Froilan and made Olivia believe that she and Froilan had an affair. Olivia decided to leave their home with her children and head for the province. Unfortunately for Olivia and the kids, the plane they boarded was doomed; it crashed into the sea. While all her five children were rescued from the crash site, Olivia’s body was not found – and so she was presumed dead.
The children were brought back to their father, who was devastated by the demise of his wife. Now that Olivia is dead, Vicky hopes that Froilan will shift his attention towards her but that was not the case. Froilan continued to hope that Olivia is alive. This angers Vicky and, at the peak of her “insanity,” she rammed her car and hit Froilan knocking him unconscious. Froilan incurred grave injury in the head and was comatose.
Since Vicky is the only relative close enough to be the children’s trustee, she was appointed as the legal guardian of the kids. This new development in the story gives Vicky the privilege to wreak havoc on these kids, whom she hates so much because they remind her of their mother.
Although the outpour of not-so-nice feedback online against Vicky is overwhelming, Maxine Magalona takes no offence. Instead, she considers it a pat on her back for a job well done – and she seems to be right about her assumptions. Most of the netizens who tweeted nasty things about Vicky also praised Maxene for showing exceptional talent as kontrabida. And like in classic TV dramas, the more you fight with the kontrabidas, the more sinister they become.
While the future of Froilan and Olivia’s children is still uncertain due to the absence of their parents, one thing is for sure: Vicky is not done with these kids just yet.
Watch “Mga Basang Sisiw” from Monday to Friday, after “Eat Bulaga” (approx. 2:30pm) on GMA Afternoon Prime.

Dennis Trillo - Tom Rodriguez Tandem Sparks Every Night

Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez’ on-screen romance sparks interest among straight women, men

A lot of my friends personally shared how they like My Husband's Lover a lot, Jose Junelio said ""I REALLY LOVE MY HUSBAND'S LOVER! Plus the Storyline and the acting of course!". No wonder it gained so much praises despite being a week old only.
"Maganda kasi and not just an ordinary teleserye...sawa na ako sa mga mayayamang nagsasampalan...mga social climbers na contravida...may nawawalang anak at may kakambal pala hehehe" he adds on a facebook message conversation.
Last Monday, viewers witnessed the pilot episode of GMA’s most provocative drama series. And based on overnight household ratings data recorded in Urban Luzon for June 10 - 12, My Husband’s Lover scored an average household rating of 20.5 percent versus ABS-CBN’s Apoy sa Dagat with 16.6 percent.
My Husband's Lover is more than a very attractive story, it has strong revelations. All realization the story gives to the its viewers develops important life changes. This show will going to hit it's target market big time but will also develop morality issues sooner or later.
In last Sunday’s pilot episode of GMA’s new Sunday noontime show “Sunday All Stars,” Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez, the male lead stars of the network’s controversial primetime series, “My Husband’s Lover” titillated the studio audience when they did a duet of their soap’s theme song, “One More Try.”
The two actors have become a popular topic on social networking sites and blogs lately because of their portrayal as gay lovers in the said prime time series.
In “My Husband’s Lover,” Dennis plays as Eric, an openly gay man who has had an affair with Vincent, a closet bisexual portrayed by Tom Rodriguez. Eric and Vincent’s high school romance ended when Eric had to migrate to the United States. Years later, Eric returns to the Philippines and hopes to reignite his failed romance with Vincent only to find out that his ex-lover is now married to a woman – Lally (Carla Abellana).
Vincent struggles to wipe out any trace of his romance with Eric and start life anew with Lally but despite his efforts, it seems that fate has a different plan for him and his ex-love Eric. The more Vincent tries to avoid Eric, the more they are brought together by chance, usually in very awkward situations.
In Monday night’s episode (June 17), Vincent introduced Eric to Lally as his long lost “friend.” Although the meeting with Vincent's wife deeply broke his heart, Eric tried to conceal his emotions and pretended to have moved on from his feelings for Vincent. Lally, on the other hand, was unaware of the fact that there was an emotional tension between her husband and Eric at that point.
What’s interesting about the show is that it presents to the audience a concept that is new – at least in the Philippine TV arena – yet timely. It also does not take sides in the issue of homosexuality or homosexual relationships. Instead, it portrays the matter as something that exists in the real world and in a way that is tasteful and non-offensive to either those who are for or those who are against it. In short, it is not pornography presented in the guise of art but pure drama that revolves around – not homosexuality – but the feeling of “love” in general regardless of sexual orientation.
"My Husband's Lover" was a risky move for GMA but after two weeks of consistently winning in the ratings and trending on Twitter, it seems that the network has already won in its gamble.
Also, despite of the homosexual/bisexual theme of the series, the program seems to appeal also to (straight) female and male audience groups. In fact, the show is discussed not only in parlors but also in gyms, coffee shops and in offices.
The series also stars Kuh Ledesma, Roi Vinzon, Glydel Mercado, Chanda Romero, Karel Marquez, Bettina Carlos, Victor Basa and Kevin Santos.
Catch the intriguing and thought-provoking story of “My Husband’s Lover” airing weeknights after “Mundo Mo’y Akin” (approx. 9:30pm) on GMA-7.
For updates about the show, follow its official account on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/myhusbandslover) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/myhusbandslover).

Anya Resorts and Residences

Anya Resorts and Residences: First in luxury, first in assured investment returns

For many years, no other resort development in the Philippines could truly prove its claim to be world-class—until now. Anya Resorts and Residences is the first truly world-class resort in the Philippines, located just one and a half hours away from Metro Manila, according to luxury resort maven Andrew Sparrow, who is part of the team of international experts responsible for the design and development of Anya.
“Filipino hospitality is world-renowned. Despite this, there is no Philippine chain of hotels that can truly be called a world-class resort. Anya aims to tap resources within the country and create a world-class Filipino resort brand infused with the warmth and hospitality that Filipinos are known for,” said Sparrow.
Anya Resorts and Residences combines a boutique resort sanctuary with luxury residential units. Weekend guests enjoy the resort hideaway facilities while residents are privileged with 24/7 personalized service right in their very own homes, plus unlimited access to resort facilities, amenities, perks, and services.
Anya Resorts and Residences is located along Buena Vista Hills Road, in Barangay Mag-asawang Ilat, Tagaytay City and approximately a mere 60 kilometers, or about an hour’s drive, from Manila. It’s just a kilometer away from the Tagaytay National Highway. It is a 5.7 hectare property in a secluded area in Tagaytay and is just an hour’s drive from Metro Manila.
Global vision, tropical ambiance
According to Santi Elizalde, (official designation here) Anya is meant to be the leading wellness resort and hotel brand in the country—and one that will be internationally competitive, placing Tagaytay and the Philippines in the international resort scene. “That’s how big our vision is for Anya,” he said.
To make this vision a reality, an elite team experts has been tapped. They include Sparrow, acclaimed architect Manny Samson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roxaco Land Corporation
Pedro Roxas, and renowned chef extraordinaire Carlo Miguel.
According to Sparrow, the overall architecture of the resort is a big factor in helping Anya claim its stake as an international resort development.
“Anya’s architecture puts together the best practices and attributes that we expect from international luxury boutique hotels. This means luxury bathrooms, a tranquility pool, a library concierge and a living room lobby. At the same time, Anya’s design also provides all the comforts of home,” he explained.
Even as Anya adapts international standards for luxurious design, it will still retain a Filipino tropical feel. “The architecture of Anya residences is a modern interpretation of tropical Filipino design. Simple, clean lines will be accentuated by the warmth and familiarity of rustic traditional Filipino elements,” said architect Samson.
Ultimately, Anya provides residents and guests an unmatched opportunity for rest and relaxation, privilege and pampering.
“A sense of privacy and personal space is always there. The usable spaces, indoors and outdoors, are refreshing in their combination of earthy and neutral colors, with discreet touches of bright hues. Browns and linen-whites combine with the natural finishes of wood, bamboo, and abaca. These are in perfect synch with the resort’s verdant and floral landscape. Overall, the atmosphere is tranquil, natural, and genuine,” said Samson.
Resort lifestyle
Anya’s residents and guests enjoy a privileged resort lifestyle with all the luxurious pampering they deserve.
“Anya is being developed as a world-class, self-contained resort that would be one of the very best in the country, and probably the best within one and a half hours of Manila. It’s destined to be the Philippines’ leading spa and wellness getaway. As a boutique spa resort, Anya provides a sanctuary for the senses: it invigorates the soul while relaxing body and mind,” Elizalde explained.
Anya Resort and Residences will be a harmonious blend of spa elements, healthy cuisine, award-winning spa services and wellness activities, and other signature Anya experiences. A stay at Anya is a journey of rejuvenation and wellness experiences meant to soothe and indulge the senses.
Personalized service is at the core of the boutique resort lifestyle provided by Anya. Residential unit owners have their very own personal assistants to cater to their every need. They can have food and beverages delivered to them at anytime, anywhere inside Anya. If they wish, they may also avail of a personalized wellness program that includes detox, holistic treatments, and balanced life coaching.
Of course a boutique resort lifestyle will not be complete without excellent cuisine. And even better, the food at Anya will be deliciously fresh and healthy.
“The signature restaurant will serve the freshest food straight from the garden to the
table. I call it ‘country, relaxed style of food’—we’ll use the best home-made ingredients like garlic mayonnaise, home-made ham, sourdough, etc.
“The freshness of the ingredients will really make a difference in how the delicious Anya’s food will be. I want to preserve traditional foods, recipes, and cooking methods to bring out the best in all the meals we serve. Definitely, there will be no buffets,” said chef Carlo Miguel.
Best investment
So many people dream of a having their own resort hideaway—and maybe owning a resort themselves. With Anya, this dream can come true in the best way. Its strategic location, affordability, world-class luxury branding and international quality amenities make it a smart investment proposition.
According to Roxas, Anya is a sound investment because its returns come not only in the form of monetary yields but also in terms of experiences that promote total well-being.
“First of all, an investment in Anya allows the investor to earn from Anya’s hotel component through cash on yield earning. We are the only developer in the Philippines that has created a real system that assures return on investment.
“Second, the exclusive, luxury experience at Anya provides guests, residents, and investors with amenities and services that promote health and wellness of mind, body and spirit. These two benefits are enjoyed by investors over the lifetime of the asset,” said Roxas.
A boutique luxury brand like Anya also has a distinct selling proposition that makes it attractive to Filipinos, balikbayans, and foreigners alike: it is a world-class boutique luxury brand inspired by the likes of Como, Six Senses, and GHM—yet at the same time it is differentiated by more affordable accommodations, personalized services, fresh healthy food, and of course, the warmth and hospitality that Filipinos are known for.
“We welcome guests and investors to come over to Anya so they can experience for themselves what a premiere, luxury boutique resort lifestyle is like. We’re sure that once they experience the Anya lifestyle, they won’t be able to imagine living life any other way,” said Roxas.

Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants app

Build Your Own Bikini Bottom with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants app

Kids and parents alike will have something fun to look forward to as Nickelodeon debuts a brand-new city building app, SpongeBob Moves In. SpongeBob SquarePants fans can now build their very own Bikini Bottom with the globally available app, which features a stylized 2D design and gives fans a whole new way to interact with the hit animated series.

Parents and educators can use the app to encourage children to use their imagination as they customize the look of their undersea city with a variety of characters, buildings, and accessories. They can also learn about being responsible and taking care of others as they must collect happiness points in the ongoing quest to keep Bikini Bottom inhabitants happy by fulfilling their wishes. Residents wish for items such as food like Krabby Patties from the KrustyKrab restaurant or gifts like a bouquet of flowers from the Flower Shop. Once the characters’ wish is granted, players can collect happiness points or other items. When the app’s happiness meter is filled, players advance to the next level in the game, where they can continue earning coins, game experience and unlocking more quests, buildings and accessories to buy in the store.

As players advance in the game, they can unlock app-exclusive, untold stories about how their characters, including SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Squidward and Sandy, first arrived in town. Written by the SpongeBob SquarePants series writing staff, these stories are told through brand-new animated short videos unlocked throughout the game. “Millions of fans around the world experience the fun and magic of SpongeBob on television every day, and now they can live out their very own Bikini Bottom adventures with SpongeBob Moves In whenever and wherever they want,” said Steve Youngwood, EVP and General Manager, Digital, Nickelodeon Group.

Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has become a global pop culture phenomenon and a long-time favorite Nick pal among kids. In its 13th year, the series continues to rank as one of the most ‘liked’ animated series on Facebook, with more than 81 million fans.
